Question

Exporting tags for nested lists from InDesign

When I have nested lists in InDesign (with the first level set as Level 1 and the second level set as Level 2), the tags export as:

<L>

       <LI>

            <Lbl>

            <LBody>

            <L>

The second level list is nested within the List Item and not the List Body. Is this a bug or is there a way to fix this without having to remediate every single list in Acrobat?

What are you exporting to?

Note that export of lists to EPUB has — to me — similarly wonky notions of level stacking, with a Level 2 section placed within the last <li> item of a Level 1 section, instead of a <ul> within <ul> ordering. I find it exasperating.

I am exporting to a PDF, not EPUB. Seems like InDesign just doesn't export multilevel lists properly.

The structure seems consistent, then, so I'd assume it's a deliberate choice.
