Exporting to PDF with InDesign is taking too long

I am working in the latest version of InDesign (V21.6) on PC. I have noticed that when I export to PDF recently that InDesign is taking a very long time to complete the export. Has anyone else had this issue?

It might help to define”very long time” along with complete system specs.

@youthful_workmanship01e2, in addition to @leo.r's questions, in your export preset, do you have “Preserve InDesign Editing Capabilities” checked? However, that’s not always a bottleneck. You can also try to disable preflight (Window > Output > Preflight, and uncheck “On”). Let us know if either of these changes makes any difference.

Do you experience this with a file that previously took much faster to export? Or do you notice slowness in general, but with different files?

I am noticing slowness in general with larger files. For example, I just attempted a new file that is approximately 85MB. It is also taking a long time to PDF. A smaller file size like 12MB for example, was very fast. I have not experienced this before on a Mac so I was checking if this was a PC issue.

Ok, so do I understand correctly that exporting was fast on a Mac, and now it’s slower on a totally different Windows machine? If so, then what were that Mac’s specs, and what are the PC specs? Computer model, processor, RAM, free disk space.

Also, the size of the InDesign file doesn't necessarily correlate to the PDF export speed. It’s the contents of the file that matter as well as the PDF export settings.
