Question

Eyedropper not working for text - unless ALL other layers are turned off

As subject. InDesign 19.2 x64 (most recent version as of typing).

Eyedropper is not working for any text attributes. It will ONLY work if every other layer is turned off.

Have checked eyedropper preferences. Have trashed InDesign preferences. Have restarted InDesign. Have restarted Windows. Issue has been happening since installing InDesign 2024.

Can not use InDesign 2023 as I'm working on 100+ documents which have already been converted to 2024. Issue is NOT in 2023.

Same issue as shereel35532566 comments on in thread below

If there's layers above your object it's going to use those instead as they are higher up in the pecking order.

I have no idea if this is happening for you -  you'd have to provide screenshots of your layers and layout and what is happening when you use the eyedropper tool.

But my experience with layers would be that the ones above take priority - turning off the layers seems like a reasonable step so that you're only affecting the items you want.

Turn back on the layers when finished.

There's no object/s above the object/s I'm selecting. Thus the layer "solution" doesn't make any sense.  I have objects/layers on master pages and other pages, pasteboard etc, no where near, above or below the objects I'm selecting.

Anything I apply the eyedropper removes all styling and color, so it's invisible.

I've been using InD since v1 n the late 90s. InD 2023 doesn't have this issue, it's in the 2024 release.

You have objects on master pages and other places.

I can't see your document or test your setup because  it's not shared.

If you can supply more information, screenshots, or a test file maybe we can find out what's going on.

Very hard to know from a text description.
