eyedropper tool applies formatting to the whole line, instead of the word I select.

I only want it to be applied to the words I select with the tool. But it always applies the formatting to the whole line.

To customize the attributes you want to copy with the Eyedropper tool, use the Eyedropper Options dialog box: Format text in InDesign

You may be better off using Character Styles.

    Hi tuilorraine:

As Derek mentioned, you have control what attributes the eyedropper picks up. When you double click the Eyedropper tool, you can see the options. Character settings are only applied to the selected text, paragraph settings are always applied to the entire paragraph.

If this doesn't clear things up for you, please share a few screen shots so that we can see exactly what is happening. This will allow us to determine if it is a question of not understanding how the Eyedropper works or if InDesign is misbehaving.
