OpenOffice (.odt) converted manuscript to .pdf file. I signed up with InDesign.  I want to continue editing & proofreading with InDesign. How do I upload the converted .pdf file into InDesign  to continue working in the new.pdf format?  Thanx in advance.  worddoc

Save the ODT file as DOCX, then you can import it in InDesign.

You can't save a ODT-file in OpenOffice as an .docx-file, just as an .doc-file.

    Why doesn't InDesign doesn't love - or respect - OpenOffice-files?

Why are re-litigating a 6-year-old post? Word is a standard tool. Even saving from other applications as DOC/DOCX is not very reliable unless you open/save in Word before placing in InDesign.

    Hi,

You can place a .pdf file in InDesign. Import files into InDesign from other applications

After placing the .pdf file into Indesign, it cannot be edited from within InDesign. You can however read it and change the location at which it is placed. Placed pdf in InDesign are simply linked files. The extent to which you can edit a pdf, is specified by import options (which you can explore by clicking the "Show import options" while importing).

If you want to edit it, you need some extra plugins which you can get by doing a simple google search. (Pdf2indd)

With a Microsoft word document(docx), the case is different. InDesign can import your text, formatting and styles and  allows you to edit them as well.
