Question

File gets jammed

Hi all,

I'm working on a file for a customer making a price list and when I try to scroll down, let alone try to move an object (text frame or tables), I have to wait for about 15 sec before I can go on. I contacted Adobe about it and they say it's because of the file size. It is a pretty big file (106,4 mb) because it's full of tables (with article numbers and prices) but I barely used images. Is it actually too big or is it another issue? Has anyone faced these issues before and (how) did you fix it? Also, even if it's a big file shouldn't InDesign be able to handle it since the program is kind of made to make files like these? And my last question: in which program will I be able to do my work with files this big if InDesign doen't support this?

FYI: I'm working on a MacBook Pro 2017 / Intel core i7 / 16 GB RAM

Greetings Annieck

If you're using a Preflight profile, try turning it off in the Preflight panel.

I didn't use a preflight profile (I think). Basic is selected when I take a look at the Preflight panel..

Which version. of InDesign and OS?

Try resetting the InDesign preferences:

Close InDesign. Then hold down  Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch InDesign. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.

Hi Annieck,

DISPLAY PERFORMANCE

I appreciate that you think your issues are stemming from a text heavy document (as opposed to image heavy) so this suggestion here might not be of much use. Have you tried different Display Performance settings within the View menu? If it is currently set to High Quality Display you could try Typical Display or Fast Display.

If you have some luck changing the Display Performance settings you can fine tune them in the Display Performance section of the Preferences.

RESET PREFERENCES

If the above doesn't help you could also try resetting the Preferences.

Set preferences in Adobe InDesign

Windows

Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.

Mac OS

While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.

Cheers,

Michael

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your answer! Since I contacted Adobe already they tried to change display performance and reset te preferences of InDesign, they even deleted al my fonts to try and make it work but unfortunately al those things did not work.

I just tried again to reset the preferences but unfortunately it didn't work either..

Thank you for your help anyway!

Cheers, Annieck
