File Size Error: Page size doesn't fit with Margin and Column settings.{Renamed}

Whenever I attempt to make a new document that is an odd size (for instance, 5" x 1"), I get this error:

The page size does not fit with the current margin and column settings.

Select the appropriate pages in the Pages Panel and then adjust using the Margins and Columns dialog box.

Ultimately, I have to create a new document in a larger, standard size ( like 8.5" x 11"), then go into my Pages Panel, navigate to the bottom and select “Custom” from the drop-down menu. Why?

This happens all the time and it’s pretty annoying. Any advice is greatly appreciated. CC 2018.

    Thanks SJRiegel. That worked (apparently, my default margin was set to .5" and that won’t work on a 1" file).

    Chances are that the margins on the New Document dialog are too large for the page size you chose.

    Changing the margins to equal something less than the page size should fix your problem.
