files missing from recently opened list

Opened InDesign today to continue working on an assignment, but files were missing from recently opened files list. hope all my work hasn't been lost. has this happened to anyone before ? how to resolve ?

Missing files from the recent list is not an indicator that the file has been deleted from disk. As far as I remember this list is not refreshed atleast in InDesign even when you delete the file manually. However, the list can be cleared by a preference trashing operation among other things like changing the preference for no. of files to show in recent list etc. So as guided by other members try to search for the files on your computer and don't worry too much on the list shown inside InDesign.

You should be able to use your operating system search feature (Spotlight if you're on  a Mac) to search for the file in case it's been "misplaced."

couldn’t find files in directory anymore either. did not delete anything.
it’s an enigma to me.
