Files Taking Ages to Make Changes - Cross References Issue
Hi all,
I'm posting this in the hopes it helps someone else out as I had this issue and it was sapping a lot of time. I had searched and couldn't find an answer to it, but have stumbled across the workaround...
Problem: I have a book consisting of numerous files, with many cross references between them.
I open a file, and try to make a change (bolding a word for example), and it takes ages to do it. The cursor flickers and it seems to be doing a repetetive task in the background. While it's doing this, I can't do anything else.
I had suspected that it was resolving the cross references in the document everytime a change was made, and in some instances I had to wait minutes after every slight document change. In looking in the Windows folder where the files were kept, it was opening up locked temporary files in the background to help it resolve them.
Solution: Open up every file in the book when working on the troublesome file. This makes the problem go away and the file becomes usable again with changes happening instantly and no background opening/closing of documents when it hunts for every cross reference.
Hope it's useful and works for you,
Cheers, Glynn
