fit photo to irregular frame

I would like to fit a photo into the irregular line drawing of a country's outline.

The result should be that the photo takes the shape of this county.

(I can have access to Illustrator, if that helps)

I didn't know it was that easy - but that's always the case : easy if you know...

I shall try tomorrow to import the outline graphic into Illustrator, convert to Vector and place the Vector into InDesign.

Then just place to pic into the Vector.

You don't want to File > Place the Illustrator file. Instead, select the path in Illustrator and File > Copy into InDesign. This will work if not too complex, keep it simple (smooth, not so many anchor points). 

 

In InDesign, you can't Place a picture into an Illustrator placed graphic.

The best choice would be a vector path drawn with InDesign's path or shape tools (or, if simple, copied from Illustrator). Then you can just choose File > Place to place the picture into the path.
