Fixing Video Display Issues in InDesign: Rounded Corners and Strokes Not Rendering Correctly

Hi everyone,

I’m in desperate need of help with an issue I’ve been facing in Adobe InDesign for the past month. When I insert a video and resize it with rounded corners and a stroke, it looks fine initially, but then the corners keep flicking back to square. When I publish, it looks very wrong (corners rounded, but video square inside the round) and this has become incredibly frustrating since images work perfectly.

I have not changed any settings before this issue started as it started randomly.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Verified framing settings (set to None)
- Reinstalled InDesign
- Ensured I’m using the latest version

- Currently using a Macbook Pro M2 (MacOS15) - Same as always

- Ensure videos are in MP4 format

I’ve also noticed that when I use the “Fill Proportionally” option, the blue bounding box shows outside the frame, which isn’t correct. This issue is seriously impacting my ability to create a weekly magazine that is done for my job, and I really need the videos to display correctly when published.

If anyone has experienced this or has any suggestions on how to resolve it, I would be immensely grateful for your help. Thank you so much!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hi @Terrence292549358r2m

I’m really sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re facing with video formatting in InDesign, especially with your tight publication deadlines.

You’ve done a great job troubleshooting so far. Since the issue persists despite the steps you’ve taken, there could be something more specific at play here. To assist you better, could you confirm which version of InDesign you’re using? I see you’re on a Macbook Pro M2 with macOS 15, but could you specify the exact version of InDesign?

If it's possible, sharing your InDesign file with us would be very helpful. You can upload it here securely, and we can take a closer look to see exactly what might be going wrong.

In the meantime, please try the following:

1. Right-click on the video frame, choose 'Object Export Options', and under the 'EPUB and HTML' tab, make sure the settings align with how you want your video displayed. Sometimes, default settings here can override what you see in the InDesign interface.

2. Use the 'Preview in Browser' function to see if the issue with the video corners appears there as well. This can sometimes give different results compared to the Publish Online preview and might help isolate the issue.

Looking forward to your response!

Thanks,
