Question

Font changing when dragging and dropping pages from one file to another

I'm working in Indesign and I have 2 separate files. I'm trying to take 3 pages from one document and move them to the other. When I do this it changes the font on the recently added pages to Minion Pro. Does anyone have an answer for why this is happening and what to do to fix it? I REALLY do not want to have to manually fix it. I've also tried just copying and pasting the stuff onto a new page and the same thing is happening.

When you move content from one file to another and styles have identical names, the styles in the file being copied TO are applied.

When you say styles are you talking about font styles? Both documents are using the same fonts so when I move, the new pages have completely different fonts than the others.

Bob is talking about Paragraph styles.

    Check them in both documents.

    1) Minion is InDesign’s default for [Basic Paragraph]. Technically, it’s possible to edit, but highly not recommended.

I suspect it is customized in your source document, and -

    2) text you’re copying has some Paragraph Style applied, which is based on [Basic Paragraph]. Another bad practice!

    3) Since [Basic Paragraph] definitions differ (in a target doc it has default Minion), font changes to Minion.

Solution: while you’re not familiar enough with text styles, keep your own styles based on [No Paragraph Style], just to be on the safe side.

And never edit [Basic Paragraph] style! Even better, don’t use it all… Always create your own styles, NOT based on [Basic].
