Font drop down list won't find find when I type it in

I have had this issue for a while now, and have been working around, but it’s just getting annoying.  When I start to type the name of the font I want into the drop down box, it won’t find the font I want. In this example I was typing in Poppins, but it gets as far as Po, then won’t go any further than this font. I have to go into the drop down list and scroll until I find the font.

The troubleshooting I have done: 

• checked for font filtering. There is no filter applied.
• Have changed “number of recent fonts to display” to 0.
• read over the type preferences over and over looking for a setting that will fix this

Please help. I’ve worked around this for too long!
