Font dropdown menu glitching when defining paragraph styles

Been having this issue for months and have just updated to the latest Indesign version (18.5) but still having the glitch. When Defining paragraph styles, if I click on the font family or font style drop down menus, they appear for a split second, automatically select whatever comes next alphabetically and then disappear. My only work-around is to click/hold the dropdown carat, move my curser away from the dropdown list it will stay open and allow me to scroll as long as I continue holding the click.

    Try resetting your preferences:

    Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
    macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
    A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
