Font Family Dropdown in Styles Not Working

I'm really damn frustrated right now. Here's the situation:

When I create (or edit) a paragraph or character style, when I click on the font family dropdown list, the list doesn't work. I can select a font from the regular toolbar dropdown, but the list doesn't work in the styles panel. I can select a font by typing or using the arrow keys, but it doesn't give me a preview or the list.

Can anyone help? Here's some things I've already tried.

1. Restarting InDesign

2. Restarting Windows

3. Reinstalling InDesign

4. Trying a different keyboard

5. Trying a different mouse

None of those have helped.

Just a note that I Still have this problem. I managed to fix it for about 2 days by completely wiping my hard drive and reinstalling EVERYTHING, but the problem came back.

Can I please get actual help that isn't just a cut and paste answer? Or are you just not interested in any of your users once they give you their money each month.

    Hi Save-vs-DM :

This is a user-to-user forum—Bob and I take time out of our workdays to volunteer our time to help other users. We aren't getting any of your money, nor are you speaking directly to Adobe.

I was exploring corrupt preferences with you, and Bob was trying to figure out the monitor situation. We were both relying on our experience, and not cutting and pasting stock answers.

We do understand your frustration. If you would prefer to let the Adobe engineers know what is going on, you should log in a bug report here: Adobe InDesign Feedback.

Sorry for being testy, I'm just up against a deadline and super frustrated. Didn't mean to take it out on people.

As an update, I think I might have figured out the problem - it has something to do with fonts. I cleared my fonts folder and started reinstalling, and with a smaller font load the problem disappears. Not sure if it's a corrupt font, if I just had too many installed, or what.

    Hi Save-vs-DM:

    6. Reset InDesign Preferences

There are various ways to delete preferences. The link Bob gave you outlines two: the keyboard technique and manually locating and deleting the InDesign SavedData and InDesign Defaults files. Which one did you do?

You can also work your way through the post below, including deleting the cache folder to solve erratic behavior InDesign. The files regenerate themselves, but the technique described in the last paragraph is more destructive: you will lose save workspaces, save find/change queries, etc (though you could move them out of the way before continuing, and then drag them back in.)

I used the keyboard technique. Which didn't work. Nor did anything else on that list. So I've tried to uninstall Creative Cloud completely again, and now it won't even uninstall. I used the uninstall tool, which works, but if I install it again it won't let me install any apps. It just throws weird errors (no type, just sends me to the website).

Sounds like corrupt preferences. Try resetting them:

That didn't help at all. I reset the preferences as indicated and the problem still persists.

    Things I've already tried:

    1. Restarting InDesign

    2. Restarting Windows

    3. Reinstalling InDesign

    4. Trying a different keyboard

    5. Trying a different mouse

    6. Reset InDesign Preferences

Which version of InDesign and OS?
