Font Warning - Missing Myriad Pro Light

Hi

I just opened an important document, and I got a missing font error for Myriad Pro Light. I traced it to an empty line (or a line containing jt to a hard return or space) that shouldn't have been there. As far as I am aware I have not used this font.

I'm just curious how this could have happened?

    Hi Jason:

Also note that text imported from Word can bring along its formatting. I find strange fonts assigned to spaces, commas, quotes, etc. After I think I've assigned all my styles, I always visit Type > Find Fonts to see if any oddball fonts are still listed, and I find/change them back to the desired font.

Sometimes an InDesign user will select all the VISIBLE text and change its attributes; but they missed selecting the last invisible hard return character. That is why I usually 4-click to select a paragraph. 4-clicks always selects the last hard return character.

Another practice that avoids your stated problem is to generally-always use defined Paragraph Styles. When paragraph styles are applied to a paragraph, it applies evenly to the entire paragraph, including the invisible hard return.

One more thing is in Edit > Preferences > Type where you tick ON the Apply Leading to Entire Paragraphs.

To go back and fix these kinds of undesirables, it is helpful to click the button in the upper-right of the Paragraph Styles panel. It looks like a plus sign enclosed in brackets. This is the Style Override Highlighter. Clicking this button highlights text in a cyan blue-green and this helps you find mistakes like what you describe.
