Fonts & Background Tasks

Question

Hi all - wondering if someone can help me with an issue i'm having with fonts & background tasks!

I work with the Monserrat Font and lots of documents I open use the OTF version of the font which is never recognised that I have. I have tried many times to install and uninstall all different versions and nothing seems to work. I then have to find and replace all variations of the font to the version I do have.

Aswell as this it then starts background tasks of adding this font (which are never completed), I then can't export for Print or Package documents until I have Force Quit the programme to cancel the background tasks and reopen the document which becomes very tideous when working on multiple documents.

Does anyone have any solution for this?

Sorry to hear you're running into this. I know how frustrating font issues can get, especially when you're juggling multiple documents.

Could you let me know where you downloaded the Montserrat font from? I recommend removing all versions of the font from your system, restarting your device, and then reinstalling just the version you want to use. If possible, install it from Adobe Fonts. If not, Google Fonts is also a reliable source.

Also, make sure the font is installed system-wide and not just through a font manager. Are you using any font manager by chance? Once all versions are removed, it's a good idea to clear your system's font cache before reinstalling the font to avoid any conflicts. Reference: https://adobe.ly/4meQaYA

Regarding the background tasks getting stuck, please try disabling the Auto-activate Adobe Fonts option under InDesign Preferences > File Handling. That often helps stop InDesign from continuously trying to sync missing fonts. Do you see this happening only in InDesign or in other Adobe apps too?

Once the fonts are cleaned up and reinstalled properly, those background task issues should ideally stop as well.
