Hello,

I am currently preparing a book with footnotes that must be changed in all chapters. Unfortunately, sometimes the numbers start again at 1 before the end of the chapter. So I go to the page numbering options and uncheck the Start of section box and then OK. Usually, this changes the number for the one following the previous one (e. g. 15 and 1 becomes 15 and 16). For some reasons , even though the box is unchecked, the number refuses to change. My text boxes are well linked and I don't know what's stopping me from changing the number.

Thank you for your help!

Kelly.

Bonjour,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

I'm not clear if you are working with one single InDesign document where you did sections in the Pages Panel that correspond with the Chapters. Or if you are doing one InDesign document for every chapter and organize all the documents with an InDesign book file.

If you are working with one single document check:

1. Restart Numbering is set to "Section"

2. You devided your document into sections in the Pages Panel

3. The pages of your chapters should correspond with the pages of your section in the Pages panel

When organizing more than one document with an InDesign book file, make sure that every document in the book file has only one section in the Pages panel.

If you are unclear what an InDesign page section is see:

Especially see the small section indicator in the Pages panel, that triangle at the top of a page proxy in the panel.

Uwe

I have done all of the above, and still my footnotes restart on every page. I have made sections and clicked in the footnotes option box that they should restart on section. But no change? Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Hi Kelly:

What does your Footnote Options dialog box show for Restart Numbering? Is it checked? If so, uncheck it.
