FR: Consistent Handling of Un-Filled Shapes in InDesign Libraries

My company has a custom library of icons to use on various materials. To make this easily accessible across our marketing team, we built an Adobe Library so users can simply drag assets into their layouts. We intentionally included an un-filled, un-stroked square in each icon to help with visual alignment and consistent scaling. This works perfectly in Illustrator. However, InDesign ignores that square entirely, meaning just the icon itself appears.

This is a big problem for us. It will make it harder to spot inconsistent sizing and to properly visually align the icons. Adobe Library assets need to be treated consistently across Adobe products.

Is there a solution to prevent this issue? If not, I'd like to request this change be made (or at least a toggle be put in place in a library's options).

I'd really like to see a response from an Adobe employee about this.

Hi @TheMorningLine2,

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback regarding the behavior of un-filled, un-stroked shapes in Adobe Libraries. I understand how crucial consistent handling across Adobe products is for maintaining alignment and scaling standards in your projects.

Currently, InDesign does not include un-filled, un-stroked shapes in the placement of Library assets, which differs from Illustrator's behavior. To address this issue, you can try this workaround:

- Include a transparent filled shape within your icons instead of an un-filled, un-stroked shape. This will ensure the placeholder is recognized when placed in InDesign.
- Consider using alignment templates or guides within InDesign to manually align icons as needed.

Your feedback is valuable, and I will pass this request to our product team for consideration as a feature enhancement. Adding a toggle option for handling un-filled shapes in Adobe Libraries would improve consistency across apps.

To help further, I encourage you to raise a UserVoice request for this feature [here](https://adobe.ly/3UKXQqa) and share the link in this thread. This way, other community members can upvote it, helping the product team prioritize the enhancement.

If you need further assistance or have more questions, feel free to reach out. Your input helps us improve, and we appreciate your patience and insights.

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Thanks for the quick response Abhishek. I'm glad there is a potential workaround. One question I have: introducing transparency can sometimes cause issues when printing documents (it will often also cause some colors to change slightly on-screen when an object with transparencies applied to it is on the same page in InDesign). Even though the object is totally transparent in your workaround, would that possibly introduce some issues with printing? I just want to make sure before I go through our whole library with this workaround.

I also did just suggest a feature here on User Voice around this topic: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/49076855-change-asset-characteristics-color-style-in-ado
