From Mac to Windows and vice versa

Hello everyone. I work on InDesign on Windows in the office and have just downloaded the same version on my Mac. Am I able to work on the same documents from both platforms? I've read that Mac and Windows don't play nice together and that settings and images go missing or get distorted. However, the most recent posts on this topic I can find are from a couple of years ago, so I'm hoping they've sorted their differences and are best friends now. Thankyou!

The formats are cross platform. As long as you have access to the same fonts the files will work on Windows or Mac.

Hi Jannabannana,

and of course make sure that your file and folder names are cross-platform compatible.

Example: On a Mac you could use the slash and the pipe characters in file names.

Not so on a Windows environment.

Also watch out for the length of a given file path if you are working with nested folders that contain files with long file names.

Do not transfer files and folders in a zip container format if the file names contain e.g. Umlauts and other "special characters". Instead use Dropbox or similar services to exchange data. If so do not enable the Dropbox "Smart Synch" feature or similar features with other vendors for cloud services.

Hi there,

I agree with Scott. You should have no issues in terms of workflow or functionality between the macOS & Windows version.

Adobe Creative Cloud desktop apps are optimized to work on cross platforms. Please feel free to reach out if you have any concern. We'll be happy to help.

Ashutosh
