Hi all - relatively new to InDesign but, I was curious about whether a Gantt chart from Microsoft project could be linked like an excel file can?

Only if you make a PDF of the chart and place in InDesign. If your chart updates, re-PDF the file, replacing the old PDF, then update in InDesign.
