This post answered my question but what I wonder is why Adobe doesn't put a checkmark next to the items that are turned on. They do this for some selections. I looked through that menu a couple of times before coming to this site. If the grid is on then show the menu item checked. Then I know to uncheck it to turn this off. It pains me to use Adobe tools. I need it sometimes but really every time I have to go looking on Google to find answers.

Thanks. Accidentally brought up grid; in my panic was overlooking the remedy. I hate it when I do that.
