Question

Grey pics when I open indesign

I have an old inDesign doc I need info from. All images are grey so I have no idea what's in the doc, but I suspect. I would imagine the images have been accidentally deleted by now. Why is in that I can open some inDesign documents to find none of the images are connected but still visible, but some indesign docs the images are completely grey? I would love to trick indesign somehow into showing me what was once there.

Sorry this is long.

Hi @Don31040594a02h:

Start with View > Display Performance > High Quality Display. Do the images return?

If not, please share a screen shot of the Links panel with one of the gray images selected.

Thank you! I tried that and nothing. You are right though. It seems to be the advice everone isgiving on other posts I've read. I'm going to experiment with other things. Thanks!

You said it’s an old InDesign file. Are the images missing in the Links panel? If not, what formats are they?

Also, try exporting to IDML then opening that. It’s a good way to clean up the accumulated cruft in old files.
