Half letters and flickering screen

Hi!

Two questions. First, when I use InDesign sometimes the letters become half.

Second, I drag the blue boxes or other objects; then the screen flickers enormously, and becomes partly black.

This never happened when I used a PC laptop with 8 RAM (now it's 16 RAM).

Thanks for your help.

Marie

Hi!

It's still not working. A strange thing is that when I filmed the flickering and black area when moving blue frames (with object) it didn't show up on the film! It looked completely normal...!

Hi!

Now the flickering and black area (when moving blue frames with objects) is solved! I changed browser, Google Chrome instead of Firefox. The graphics card might be responsible for the half letters, especially when I'm scrolling.

Now I think about the size of the panels, properties, tools... I would like them to be bigger, as I'm used to.

Can I change the color?

Thank you.

Hi @Sublunar Society,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting the issue. In addition to what our expert has asked, please share a short video of the issue for better understanding.

Please share the details of your operating system. Also, please close all other applications and only open InDesign and then try again.

We'll try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika

Hi!

The problems show up a few times every hour, so a video would be very long...

First, the flickering screen when moving objects in the created boxes with blue frames. Meanwhile, the lower part becomes completely black.

Second, the lines with sometimes half letters - sometimes the lines differs in other ways, getting bigger or almost disappears.

The InDesign version I use now is 18.0, wheras the one I used before (which worked) was 17.4 something. The older computer is now also 18.0. We are two persons using InDesign and the other person doesn't want to go back to 17.4.

The new computer has 16 RAM, whereas the older (which worked...) had 8 RAM.

Info about the new computer: ASUS F515JA-BQ4089W / 15.6" / FHD / IPS / i7-1065G7 / 16GB / 512GB / Win 11

Thank you.
Best regards,

Marie Lundvall

Thank you for sharing the asked information, @Sublunar Society. Could you please try creating a new user account as mentioned in this article and then try again in InDesign and let us know if that helps?

Thanks,

Harshika

So what is different now? Have you updated to 2023 / v18 ?

8GB is a bare minimum for Windows alone - you should update asap if your laptop allows it.

What is the model number of your laptop?
