Question

Hard & soft return teleports text to next frame

I KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

I checked that keep options are set to "anywhere"

Now that I got that out of the way,

Whenever I press do a return, or a soft return, the text on the right of my cursor just dissapeares, no matter how much room there is in the text square. The red '+' sign appeares indicating overflow. Does anyone recognises or know how to solve this problem?

Things I tried:

  • Paragraph styles reset.
  • Preferences reset Updated InDesign.
  • Make text room bigger
  • Ask ChatGPT

Do you also have a "Keep with Previous" or "Keep with Next" or something like keep all lines together in paragraph?

Also, your use of soft returns should be rare.

Are you using the num pad enter key or the main keyboard enter key. The num pad key is mapped to column break.

They both do the same thing, teleporting the text to next frame

Normally they are different. Input in the nummeric pat is a next frame. Return is a new paragraph.

But it is possible that a helper key is accidentliy activated (which is different by language and system) which will transform the normal return will  convert to a different type of  return.
