Question

Has 'Reveal in finder' been removed from in-context menus?

Hi There, I no longer see 'Reveal in finder' under Graphics in right-click menus. Have also tried searching (Help > Search) for 'finder' but nothing sows for me.

Has this been removed? If not, does anyone know why it might not display?

Also, am I missing something basic or can you not search keyboard shortcuts in InDesign? Couldn't see how to search for 'finder' for example.

Cheers, Ben

InDesign 20.5

1. Right-clicking the image frame...

2. Right-click the image...

3. Search for 'finder'...

4. Search Keyboard shortcuts...

Hi @csscms:

I use InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop daily (also FrameMaker but let's not go there). It would be awesome if the applications standardized, but at whose expense? Make them all like InDesign for example, and there will be furious Illustrator and Photoshop users. No one likes change.

The way I see it, a.) there's no way for Adobe to please all of us and b.) forcing myself to remember the differences keeps my aging mind active. (A glimpse into my inner dialog: Cmd+D... you are in InDesign so it's File > Place or you are in Photoshop so it's Select > Deselect or you are in Illustrator so it's Object > Transform > Transform Again.) When I can't do that anymore, it's time to go sit on a beach with a book.

@Barb Binder Ha! I hear you on the aging mind. However, the issues mentioned aren’t favourite features. Illustrator’s UserVoice is full of complaints about image & asset linking for example, with most citing InDesign. But not out of love, simply because InDesign's asset handling is far superior. InDesign users understand it doesn't have to be painful.

@BobLevine I'm not suggesting the apps become identical, only the aspects that are identical. Ever tried to replace a font in AfterEffects? Truly, a mind-numbing experience. But because After Effects users haven't used InDesign, they don't understand how easy it can be.

Leveraging features in one app, to improve identical features in other apps, is actually an advantage. The silly thing for Adobe, is that because everything works so differently, it's much easier for people to switch to non-Adobe apps.

Anyway, I see now there's little interest! Cheers

Yes. Embedded files show the embed icon and the status is set to embed.

Thanks @Barb Binder , so what does it mean when the image in question doesn't display in the Links panel at all?

Was it was either pasted into InDesign or embedded after placing?

OK, so it doesn't seem to be linked - after 20 years I didn't even know you could embed files in InDesign!

Is there a way to see which files are embedded from the Links panel?
