have creative suite pro and also a license for InDesign. If we get rid of the extra InDesign license, will that mess up projects we have in the works?

I have Creative Suite Pro. For some reason I purchased a license for InDesign as well, which I obviously don’t need since it’s part of the suite. If I drop the InDesign license, is it going to mess with the projects we have in progress? Before I remove it, I want to make sure otherwise my designer will end me.

Are both versions of InDesign up to date? If the standalone InDesign is older than 2025, you may want to keep it but you can activate it under the Creative Cloud plan. In other words, you don’t need BOTH the Creative Cloud AND a separate InDesign.

If the Creative Cloud Pro plan is active on the same Adobe account, you normally do not need a separate InDesign license, because InDesign is already included with Creative Cloud Pro. Adobe currently lists InDesign among the 20+ apps included in Creative Cloud Pro.

Canceling the extra InDesign Single App plan should not delete or damage your existing project files. The important part is making sure the Creative Cloud Pro entitlement remains active for the person who needs to open/edit the projects. If your projects are stored as InDesign cloud documents, they remain associated with your Creative Cloud account.

Before removing the extra license, I'd verify in the Adobe account that InDesign shows as included with the Creative Cloud Pro plan. That way you can avoid accidentally removing the only entitlement that gives that user access to InDesign.

What exactly is Creative Suite Pro? Do you mean Creative Cloud?

Your projects are separate from any software so even if you stop paying for InDesign, you can always pick it back up.

Yeah, that’s what I mean...back in my day (haha). I’ll confirm with my designer, I think she also wants to make sure any personalization she’s done doesn’t disappear.

So you have used the Cloud version (the new version) to set up projects and now you need to know whether you can just go back to the old version?

It would depend on which functions you used and then you would need to convert the files down. Your colleague probably will not be very happy about that.
