Hello dear community,

I recently updated my InDesign, and in this new version I noticed a little binding box appears when i select an object near my cursor... It prevents me from using the Alt to duplicate and other things- and I don't know how to get rid of it... I must have clicked soemthing?

I searched high and low all over the net- but no help.

Can anyone tell me?  It looks like a tiny square with selected corners sort-of, near the cursor...

what is it?

Thank you in advance!

Karen

The problem with modifier keys not working is a totally different problem, not related to InDesign at all. You probsbly have an application or browser extension which is "stealing" keystrokes. Often an anti-virus or program or some such, the way to diagnose it is to reboot your computer. If possible, turn OFF startup applications. LAUNCH INDESIGN FIRST. Chances are, it will now work fine. Watch carefully while launching other applications and check again. Often it's a browser extension which causes the conflict.

Look at an article I wrote about some changes to the Selection cursor in InDesign and see if it applies to your problem. I can't tell if that's what you're talking about by your description:

But I use the Option key and the Selection tool all the time in InDesign 2020 and don't have any problems.

Steve,

Thank you for the article and help. The artice is excellent, and I noticed the cursor you're describing there is what I meant. as well. The problem "fixed itself" after i rebooted- imagne that.
On that nore: Do you experience any weird bugs and glitches with Creative Suite 2020 like I do?

This is definitely a bug: It didn't let me use the Option to duplicate, and the shift didn't draw shaes with ratios, and it got "fixed" after I rebooted. Been having a lot of those little issues since I upgraded...
