Question

Hi, I just recently downloaded Indesign and I haven't been able to drag or drop things.

I downloaded Indesign not too long ago for school reasons; and the only way I’ve been able to get things to move is by arrow keys. My selection tools don’t work (direct, and regular selection), and they don’t work even when I’m trying to make text boxes bigger and or more stretched out. I’ve seen this question asked before and nothing has helped. I have the latest version and everything.

    Hi @Serendipitous_Mercuryc8d3,

Sorry you’re running into this. I hope you’ve had a chance to update InDesign to the latest version, as suggested. If not, please update it and let us know if the issue persists.

If it does, please create a new blank document, draw a simple rectangle, and select it with the Selection Tool (V). Check whether the bounding box appears, then try moving the rectangle using the arrow keys and by clicking and dragging with the mouse. Also, try resizing it using the bounding-box handles and press E to check whether you can move it with the Free Transform Tool.

If you’re using multiple monitors, please test InDesign on your primary display and let us know the Scale setting under Windows Settings > System > Display for each monitor.

Lastly, please confirm that clicking and dragging with the mouse works normally outside InDesign. This will help rule out a mouse or hardware-related issue.

Please share the results so we can narrow this down further.

    Abhishek

Do you use a mouse? Or something more fancy? Does it require its own driver?

Yesterday I used my mouse on Indesign for the first time, but the issue persists.

What OS and OS version? Can you select the tools?

Also, “latest version” is vague. Please give the actual version number.

OS is Microsoft Windows 11 and the version is 26200. Lastest version of Indesign is 21.5.1.

21.6 has finally settled down to a minimum of bugs
