how can i add header numbering in a variable?

i need to add header numbering in parent pages, but 
chapter heading cannot define that,

also, i got a section start on every page, is that something i need to eliminate?

previous file had a different Section marker 

and numbering was put there in order to show heading number within the file

what i would like was having the numbering heading changed automatically when in flow text 

a specific heading 1 would appear

 

Can i do that?

To clarify, are you trying to include the auto-number from your headings in the running head variable?

 

Somehow, this is still not a feature of InDesign in 2022. Here is a tutorial that offers (a very labor-intensive) workaround, where you create a cross-reference for each heading that references the auto-number, assign a character style to the cross-reference, add the character style running head variable to the parent page, and then hide the cross-reference on the body pages.

      Why not merely define the chapter heading paragraph style to have numbering?

      And yes, you probably don't need a Section and Numbering Options set on each page.

        there is auto numbering in my heading 1

        i simply cannot find a way on seeing it in the variable of master, so that when heading 1 changes the appropriate numbering would show

        when it was initially setted, section marker was added on first page of each new chapter/section to indicate this number, but this does not make sense to me
