How can I install ID v17?

I cleaned house a while back and deleted all older versions of ID. I wish I had never done so as I am now stuck with a bug in v18 and v19 (Adobe confirmed the document is not corrupted). I cannot move forward at all.

So, I desperately need to reinstall ID v17 or maybe even v16. But CC only shows me v18.0+. How do I get v17 or v16 to reinstall?

Hi @Gerben Wierda:

Unfortunately, Adobe only makes the current version and the last version available for download through the Creative Cloud Desktop app. In the past, people have reported success getting installers for older versions from Adobe support, but I've been hearing with some regularity that it hasn't been happening lately. Given the issues with InDesign 2024, you may have a better chance of asking and receiving the installers directly from the Adobe. If the first person says no you could ask for their supervisor.

That said, 18 should be stable unless you are on either on early version of macOS Ventura or you upgraded already to macOS Sonoma. Are you on a Mac? If so, I can give some more detail.

Hi @Gerben Wierda:

I am hopeful you've been successful obtaining the older installers.

This is my last question on trying to get the current versions (18/19) to work. Have your manually removed all cache and preferences? Not the keyboard technique mentioned first, but the steps listed under: Rebuilding the cache files.

Yes. I've even gone so far in another attempt as to remove CC entirely from the system and reinstall with many reboots in between. I've used different (new) users, different computers, all the tips found.

Basically, my problem more or less (it was a bit after) coincided with me having removed old versions of ID with CC to free up space. And when ID hangs like this, it is busy filling up my disk to full somewhere (which it definitely should not do — quite destructive)

What version of Montery? 12.7.1 was released on October 25, 2023.

Always latest of a major version, so yes: 12.7.1.

I hope so, too and would be appreciative if you could come back and let us know.

FWIW, InDesign 2023 version 18.0 release is supported on the following operating systems, so it should run as expected for you:

  • macOS version 13 (Ventura) (13.6 or 13.61. specifically)
  • macOS version 12 (Monterey)
  • macOS version 11 (Big Sur)
  • macOS version 10.15 (Catalina)

Sadly, the hang/crash happens with both v18.x and v19

I wish, I wish, I had never cleaned up (assuming I could always reinstall).

I am on macOS Monterey because I am still using other software that depends on it.

I can only hope when support gets back to be I get them so far as let me reïnstall v17 and v16. I have now been stuck for many weeks.
