Question

How come we are still unable to import Edge animations into InDesign ePub format in 2023!

It's been a long trip using Adobe products, and I'm still dumbfounded to see that we're still unable to embed Edge animations into InDesign EPUB in 2023!
I know 2023 is just starting, but both programs have been around for a while! The last we were able to bring an AOM file into InDesign was when DPS Folios were around, what happened to that technology?
I know (it runs under an enterprise license only) Also, Daniel from Team Tumult has a way around to embed the OAM by unzipping the ePub and manually entering the path to the file, but just reading the know how,
makes me feel like start smoking again Chesterfields, no filter.

Can anyone help me? Does anyone still use this forum? Because all the posts are very old.
Thanks.

DPS has been dead for years, enterprise or not. Edge, too.

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish but while animation is supported in fixed layout epub, the availability of a decent reader app has pretty much doomed the entire format, IMO.

I haven't tried placing an OAM file for years so I have no clue if they'll work in a decent EPUB reader or not.

I can't find a sample OAM file to try with. I think that says much. 🙂

Not sure if you mean FXL or EPUB, here. FXL is certainly niche at best any more, but EPUB... EPUB isn't doomed, exactly, just populated with users who are forced to wander the dimly-lit underlands, desperately seeking harmony between creation processes and the ever-shifting sand of reader implementation. 🙂

Yes, of course just FXL. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

While web and EPUB share a lot of basic characteristics, EPUB readers have about one-quarter the features of a browser. Processing animations is one they lack.

It has nothing much to do with InDesign; it's something not defined or supported in the EPUB standard.
