HOW DO I CHANGE EACH CHAPTER HEADING?

I’ve created a book layout for a novel (A5) approx. 200 pages with 31 chapters. They are single pages not facing pages. I’ve done the page numbers and also have the book title at the top of each page (created on the A master page) but I want to put the title of each chapter at the top of each odd numbered page. Do I need 31 parent pages? Any suggestions as to how to do this whilst keeping the page numbering running correctly? Thanks!

Create a text variable for with your chapter title as the source. Insert on the parent page. If you used a book file, sync the variables and parent pages to the other documents.

  1. Work conseuent with paragraph styles.
  2. Use a specific paragraph style "h1" for the chapter headline.
  3. Make a mster for those pages, e.g. nname th master "content CON"
  4. Make a new layer on top of all other layers.
  5. Name the layer "running header".
  6. Create a text variable based on the paragraph style "h1".
  7. Insert this text variable in a text frame which ust be outside the margins. (In German: Ußerhalb des Satzspiegels.).
