How do I get a drop shadow to only appear on select frames?

I want to have a drop shadow from a photo that only shows up on select frames and not on the background, as shown in the example below. How do I do that?

Create a Rectangle that is the size of the "selected" frame - you can duplicate the original shape and empty it. 

Duplicate your image and add shadow. 

Paste Into your duplicated image into the new Rectangle / duplicated shape - and align it with the original image. 

Position your newly created Rectangle / duplicated shape below your original image. 

 

Or in other words - use a container to limit the visibility of the object and applied effects - crop.
