Question

How do I position the calculator tool next to an indesign document on a Mac?

Normally, I would hover over the green button and select a side-by-side view, but the green button is not reacting. When I hover over the green button in the InDesign document, no pop-up window appears. The Mac OS calculator tool does not have a green button. I need to use the calculator next to the InDesign document.

The Mac Calculator has an “Always on Top” option under the Window menu.

I recommend the free Raycast. It has a great calculator function. You press your Raycast hotkey and type your calculation into the Raycast  field, eg. “(287-151)/2” then press return, and the answer is on the clipboard, ready to paste into a field. And no need to rearrange your windows.

If I understand your question correctly, you’ll simply need to position them manually:

You can also explore numerous 3rd-party calculator apps, maybe they have some more advanced window options such as floating mode, or menu icon popup etc.
