Question

How do I remove all previous custom settings from Indesign?

I want to do a clean install of Indesign cc but everytime I do a uninstall/reinstall it keeps the settings from previous version. I did an uninstall from the creative cloud app and I used the cleaning app from Adobe. Nothing works and all settings and shortcuts are being kept when I do a new install of Indesign cc 2019. i'm using a mac computer.

Thank you for any help.

    Hi ptperry ,

    what's your operating system?

I can identify at least three spots on the harddisk with Windows 10 where InDesign is storing preferences, caches and system information. There may be more. Also consider data from installations from older versions of InDesign.

I made it a habit to temporarily remove ALL DATA from ALL INSTALLED VERSIONS of InDesign before installing a new version or, that sometimes happens, a new version from Prerelease.

On my Windows 10 system this means all files and folders from:

    C: > ProgramData > Adobe > InDesign

    UserName > AppData > Local > Adobe > InDesign

    UserName > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > InDesign

Even doing so, I must confess, that the installer always finds my custom transparency flattening settings from previous versions and of course all installed extensions like HTML panels. I guess the installer will get them from the older installed versions of InDesign that I did not uninstall or camouflage by using e.g. a zip container.

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Hi PT Perry,

    Quit InDesign.

Press and hold and don’t release Cmd+Opt+Shift+Ctrl and click InDesign in the Dock, then Open.

Wait until you see the alert asking if you want to reset Preferences. Now release the four keys and click Yes.
