How do I save a damaged file on indesign?

I'm trying to save files on InDesign but a message appears to say the file is damaged and i have no other option to save my woprk. Please help!

Which version of InDesign and OS?

Try saving it as an IDML file.

It's a warning that in future to always make regular backup copies of your documents.
