Question

How do you create multiple page sizes with same content in proportion

Hey team,

We've got a bit of a manual chore daily: we create 15 to 20 versions of the same design, all in different dimensions (various heights, widths, and orientations like portrait and landscape).

My main question is, can we save a huge amount of time by designing the first version and then having it automatically replicate and proportionally scale across all the other required pages?

Does anyone know of a way that can handle this kind of mass resizing?

Thanks

I am using the Page tool and the Scale option. There is always a little work at the end, but still, it's 20x faster 🙂 I have set up a script which will take similar page dimensions and create another variant from them. And when you combine this with the percentage scale in preferences, if you use paragraph styles, it's possible to change everything everywhere at once.

Hi Freddie,

This will take some planning, but...

On the first layout page, make use of Layout > Liquid Layout in order to define the relative position of objects on the design.

When that is done, move on to step two: Pages panel menu button > Create Alternate Layout (and you can create more than one alternate size)

I find that this combination gets me 90% of the adjusted layout, and I can even map styles to new styles on each layout in order to have the size of the text change automatically for differing page ad sizes.

I'm also experimenting with the new feature called Flex Layout. Maybe you should, too.

Yup, liquid layouts are made for this. But they're quite fiddly to set up.

A screenshot of the flyer in question (or whatever it is) might also help, as the best solution depends also on the complexity of the document itself, I think.

Hello freddie,

Have you tried File>Adjust Layout?

Hey,

Thank you, I have, but what I need to happen is

Page 1 - A4 Portrait

Page 2 - A5 Landscape

Page 3 - A3 Portrait

Page 4 - 1920px x 1080px Landscape

Page 5 - 5000px x 800px Portrait

and so on

I create a design on page one, and need to replicate that on all further pages without having to manually do this; something that will automatically do this for me on all further pages and scale proportionally.

You say you want proportional scaling, but while A4 and A3 portrait are the same propotion, 5000 × 800 is not the same proportion as the A sizes?
