How to Auto-Flow a Large Text Insert (New Chapter) into the Middle of an InDesign Document

I need to add a very long text document to the middle of a book. Think of it like adding a huge chapter in between chapters 5 and 6. I want to auto-flow the text, so I don’t have to just manually add the additional pages, because it will be annoying as heck to have to manually add like 200 pages. Is this possible?

Hopefully not, but are your chapters flowing from one to the other using page breaks. Hopefully, each chapter is a standalone text flows.

They are not, each “chapter” is actually a separate essay that was added individually.

Sounds as if changing your single-file book document to an InDesign book would make your life a lot easier.

May not need to make it a Book. Apart from my previous suggestion, one could just 1) make a new document, 2) import the master pages and styles from the existing document so there won’t be any conflicts with step 4, 3) Place and Autoflow to automatically create as many pages as necessary, Save, then 4) Move those pages into the existing document.

Although you could do it in the middle of the document, it can get a bit “picky”, I find it easier to just add the new copy to the end of the document first using Autoflow to automatically add all the necessary pages, then move these new pages to where you want them in the document.
