How to avoid text dropping down 2 lines when return is pressed

Please refer to Images 01-03.

01: I have an author's name and book title on one line.

02: I wish to put the book title down 1 line but when I hit return it drops down 2 lines.

03: The paragraph style set-up does not include a "space before."

I have forgotten why this happens. Assistance will be greatly appreciated.
