How to change size of book

Hi,
I designed a 176x250mm sized book in InDesign, and now my client changed the specification for printing, and he is demanding a smaller size - 165x235mm. When I change document sizes in InDesign, whole layout breaks (predictable). The ratio of these two formats is almost identical, so maybe there is some workaround of which, I am not aware. What is the best way to do that?

Well you can - but you can place indesign files into an InDesign file as a link.

A pdf would work fine too. 

 

You can just set a new document at the size you want

Go to File>Place and place your actual indesign file as a link - or place the pdf.

The script is helpful - test on a about 1-10 pages first before committing your settings for the entire book

QuickResize - Id-Extras.com will get you most of the way there -- it will resize the entire book and its contents to whatever size you need, basically 100% accurately.

However, inasmuch as the proportions are not identical, you'll need to decide what to do with the extra strips of white space.

    You could scale it - but then the font sizes also scale - so it's not really doable.

    There's no real quick fix - change the size of the book - and set the Adjust Layout etc. but you just have to go page by page and ensure it's right.

     

    It's hard to know cos I don't know what's involved in the book - is it all threaded page by page as text frames?
    Are all pages independent? are there a lot of images? Are they anchored?
    Are the 2 columns or more - does it include tables? 

     

    Scaling it would be best option

    Set a new document at the size required.

    And then use File>Place to place all the pages of the InDesign file into the layout

    There's a script called Multipage Importer floating around that will make it easier. 

     

    Then it will be there - but fonts will be smaller. 

    Images should be fine as you've scaled down - not up.

    This is a children's book filled with illustrations, so fixing the layout page by page is not an option.
    I'm trying to scale this, but I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Should I export the whole book to separate pdf files and then place these files into the new document?
