How to Control Endnote Character Styles After Importing from Word

I've imported a Word doc with endnotes, which brought formatting with it (italics).

Is there any way to control the Character Styles for these?

TIA

Do the end notes not import with a defined style?

If the italics are spot formatting, as is far too common in Word, then it will have to be converted to a character style by some process. The best place to do this would be in Word, replacing that spot format with a defined Italics style. It could also be done in InDesign, but would have to start with end notes being assigned a specific and unique paragraph style.

Hi James - thanks - yeah, looks like spot formatting throughout. There's only one story with footnotes (about 40), but If I had more, I'd probably do a few find/replaces to get them into styles.

Hi @turner111,

Thanks for bringing your question to the community! I understand the importance of having consistent and controlled styling for your endnotes.

Could you please let me know which version of InDesign you're using and the details of your operating system? Additionally, are you looking to apply a specific character style to the entire endnote text, or just to certain elements like the italics?

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the Word doc and the InDesign document window showing the issue in it?

Looking forward to helping you out!

Thank you,
