How to disable AI suggestions in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator?

I'm not completely opposed to generative AI (won't get into my opinion on it personally), but Adobe really needs to stop shoving these half-baked features in our faces. Why on earth, while editing a text document on InDesign, would I need to see a pop-up suggesting "text-to-image" AI features? It's literally blocking what I'm working on and I have to close the dialogue.

Window > Contextual Task Bar

IOW, you can hide or show it.

Or pin it someplace on the screen by clicking on the 3-Dots icon.

Affinity has its own version of InDesign, which you pay for once and then own. It opens IDML files (but not INDD). It isn’t as feature-rich as InDesign, but I can do everything I need to with it. Plus, no ads, no AI being shoved in your face constantly.

DesignCraft is a dupe of InDesign, and it’s available for free via their site and Github — but I found its interface buggy.

Hope this helps!

Ah you don’t like all the AI menus and popups? Perhaps if we just add a bit more you might like it.

Hello everyone,

Sorry to hear you're running into this. Once you've clicked Try Now and walked through the feature, that banner shouldn't keep coming back.

Could you give that a go and let us know if it clears the banner for you?

Dear Anubhav,
The ‘Try Now’ option will no doubt send info on your document etc. to Adobe, am I right? This is what I absolutely want to avoid for confidentiality reasons and I think I am not the only one. It might be that AI is not trained with my data, but still leaking info is not allowed in my company.
How to make sure no data is leaked?
Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi @Mark38723834kpdb and everyone,

Thanks for your continued feedback and patience regarding the recurring blue AI/new-feature notification banners in InDesign. I checked this with the product team and wanted to clarify the current behavior.

At this time, there is no preference or supported setting to permanently disable these notification banners. Clicking the X dismisses the current notification, but it may appear again for a limited number of subsequent InDesign sessions. If you choose Try Now and complete the feature introduction, that particular suggestion should no longer appear. This is separate from the Contextual Task Bar, which can be hidden through Window > Contextual Task Bar.

We understand the request for a preference that allows these notifications to be disabled completely. There is an existing UserVoice request for this functionality, which you can follow and upvote here:

https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180/suggestions/35885698

Thanks again for sharing your feedback. We'll continue to pass it along to the team.

Thanks,

Abhishek

Hi everyone,

Thanks for continuing to share your feedback on the recurring blue notification bars. I understand how distracting these can be, especially when they reappear after being dismissed.

I’m currently checking with the product team to confirm whether there is a supported way to permanently disable these notifications or prevent them from appearing.

I’ll update this thread as soon as I have more information to share.

Thanks for your patience,
Abhishek

Thanks, Abhishek,
You can see these pop-ups also in free software, to tempt users into paying for the software - after paying those pop-ups disappear. Please do not forget that users are already paying for the software.
I hope this can be resolved quickly, I need to work.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Hi, anyone found a wat to turn off these infuriating blue bars advertsing things to me that I don’t want taking up real estate in my working space? Or does anyone know a better software to use than InDesign, the pushing of Ai ‘tools’ is becoming insuferable.

Agreed. AI produces too many mistakes to ever be helpful, especially in professional contexts.

Adobe, we need a way to turn off this incessant “AI Feature” pop-up nagbar! For professional designers, you are offering NOTHING of use and I don’t need to be reminded of it every time I open a document. Does the Adobe marketing dept actually think that bombarding paying users with the same reminder over and over will somehow net results?

Hi @wlym  and @chococake79,

Sorry for the frustration caused by these repeated notifications.

The Contextual Task Bar can be hidden through Window > Contextual Task Bar, or by selecting … > Hide Context Bar from the bar itself. However, I understand that the blue AI/new-feature notification banners you're referring to continue appearing even after the Contextual Task Bar has been hidden.

Could you please share a screenshot or short screen recording showing the notification when it appears?

There is also an existing feature request for an option to disable these notifications, which you can follow and upvote here:

Thanks for your feedback and patience!

Mine’s hidden but I still keep getting the blue bars telling me how I can set a table using AI for example. Really bloody annoying. Adobe need to make an AI which learns how many times someone has dismissed those things, then understands that they just don’t want it!

Photoshop now has "Enable quiet mode" in Preferences, which silences all these nudges and feature updates. InDesign needs to copy this. If it’s already a feature in Photoshop, clearly Adobe leadership is ok with it.

Users demand that these messages need a shut-off method. Especially pro users (Certified Professionals, even), who are well aware of how and where to test new features. We don’t need a nudge to “try the beta” every time we copy-paste something. Ho. Lee. Cow. This is annoying.

Hello @Angelic_Glowaec0

I understand that this functionality is important to you, and I apologize for its unavailability at this time. Would you mind creating a UserVoice for this feature request (https://indesign.uservoice.com/) and adding your comments there? Doing this will help us prioritize this request, and you will be notified of any updates.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

I fully agree.

In InDesign 2025, if you turn off the toolbar named Contextual Task Bar, you won't have the AI features.

The trouble is, currently there is no way to turn off the "feature advertising" boxes that popup.

Got it. Got it. Got it. No I got it. Really I got it. Yes, I said I got it. I told you I got it!

For the experienced user, It should be in the preferences to really turn them off.

Thanks for that, seems I'm stuck with it. This kind of thing seems to annoy users so Adobe needs to think about simply giving us the option to turn off what we don’t want. It has a strong market share but I remember Pagemaker and later, Quark used to be the go-to apps. Things change and whilst Affinity isn't there yet it's close enough for me to start testing it. It's more stripped down but works fast and sorting out some layer issues & other quirks would give me a fully usable alternative.

Hi @spyro,

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I completely understand how frustrating this situation can be, especially when you're using InDesign for professional work. Let me guide you through the options to minimize or disable beta and AI-related features:

1. Turn Off the Contextual Task Bar: Go to Window > Contextual Task Bar and uncheck it. This will disable the Generative AI and other contextual AI tools tied to this feature.

2. Disable Pop-Up Notifications:

Unfortunately, there’s currently no universal toggle for turning off all pop-up prompts for new features. Adobe regularly updates its software, so I recommend keeping an eye on updates for improvements in this area.

3. Revert to a Stable Version:

If the beta features persist, consider reinstalling a non-beta version of InDesign:
 - Open Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App.
 - Navigate to InDesign, click the three dots next to it, and select Other Versions.
 - Install a previous stable version without beta features.

Your feedback is valid, and Adobe does monitor these forums for insights from its user base. I encourage you to also share your thoughts through the Adobe InDesign uservocie to help prioritize changes that matter to professionals like you.

Let me know if these steps help or if there’s anything else I can assist you with. I’m here to help!

Best,
Abhishek
