Is there a way to save indesign as a word doc?

Correct answer Mike Witherell

InDesign allows you to insert a Type tool into a story and export that story as RTF.

Another approach is to export a PDF and from Acrobat Pro export the text.

You cannot directly save as an InDD file to a text file.

I once did it by saving/exporting the PDF created from the INDD as Word DOCX in Acrobat Pro. The result was very accurate. Perhaps that's what Derek meant, but he didn't refer to Acrobat. Not everyone has susbcribed for Acrobat.

You can Export the PDF (created from your InDesign fie) as a Word document but, as mentioned, you may have to do further cleanup work.

Not exactly. You can export to RTF,  then open the RTF in Word.

Another route is to export to PDF, then open the PDF in Word.

Neither of these methods are perfect.
