Correct answer Laubender

Oh, and if the interactivity is restricted to hyperlinks only, you could export to PDF (Print) with the option for Hyperlinks checked.

PPI for 27" 4k monitor is 163 - why do you need more than 2x of that ?

Hi Christoph,

how many pages do you have in your document?

How are your PDF export settings? (Please show some screenshots.)

I think there is something wrong.

2 gb for an exported PDF is way too much.

Just for comparison: Recently I exported a 900 pages catalog with a lot of images all exported to 450 ppi effective resolution. The resulting PDF file was about 300 mb.

though, if i do print and make all values to best i get a 2gb file instead of 90mb at normal web interactiv with max 300dpi....

is there something in between maybe.. lets say max 200mb?/

good values to stay at 600dpi for example?/

thanks for your help!!

I assume you want to make an interactive PDF thta can also be printed to a highend print device? What printer would need 600ppi images?

Normally the rule of thumb for print output is image resolution should be 2x the output halftone screen (LPI)—an offset press running a 150 line halftone screen would need 300ppi. Composite printers would have less resolution than offset, so it’s doubtful that any desktop composite printer would need more than 300ppi.

Hi together,

yes, that's one solution.

The other one is to export two PDFs and "merge" them with Acrobat Pro DC.

[1] Export to PDF (Interactive) ( e.g. file named A.pdf )

[2] Export to PDF (Print) with high resolution ( e.g. file named P.pdf )

[3] Open A.pdf in Acrobat Pro DC.

[4] Substitute all pages of A.pdf with the pages of P.pdf.

The interactive elements will be maintained.

Hi @akamookee , If you want to fully control the print output dimensions and resolution you’ll have to export a Print PDF.

I think it’s assumed that an Interactive PDF will be viewed on screen and not be printed, so if your document is 11"x7" and you export a page with a full bleed image at 300ppi, it will have a pixel dimension that exceeds most display resolutions (3300px x 2100px).

If you wanted to target an unusually large display, you could get a higher pixel dimension by working with a larger page size—a full bleed 22" x 14" image could export as 6600px x 4200px:

11"x7" page:

22" x 14" page:
