How to fix an ID weirdness and a file tag mystery?

For Mac ID CS5. It quits normally. Then a minute later generates a message that it has "unexpectedly quit." True too of Photoshop. Any ideas how to correct this? And perhaps related, ID files that are open or in some cases closed generate a tag, not indd, but like this: ~lance~xf46mk.idlk. Any thoughts? I thank you.

CS5 is not supported in the newer operating systems such as High Sierra.

Your choices are to use an older operating system or a newer version of InDesign.

~lance~xf46mk.idlk is a temporary recovery or "lock" file of the INDD you were working on when your system crashed. Note the ~ and .idlk extension (it's not a tag).

If you keep this file, InDesign might be able to use it to recover the remnants of the original file. If you are able to recover the original file, you can then safely delete the .idlk once you exit correctly from InDesign.

More info about recovering INDD files is at Recover InDesign documents

Let us know which version of Mac OSx you're using, and clarify your question.

Not sure what you're asking us about.

Bevi than you for that clean answer. Always wondered about .idlk and now I know.
