How to Install and Use Two Different Versions of InDesign (19.1 & 19.5) Without Replacing Each Other

I am having difficulty downloading two different versions of Indesign. I need to have Indesign 19.1 and 19.5. Everytime I install Indesign 19.1 it replaces Indesign 19.5 and vice versa. The files I have only allow to be open on Indesign 19.1.

You should be able to open any document created in 19.1 on any later version of InDesign. What you describe should not be an issue. If you are having such an issue then try exporting each of the documents in question as IDML files (File>Export>InDesign Markup (IDML)). Then open the IDML files in the later version of InDesign and save them in that version. It may be that there is some corruption in the files which this process can possibly fix.

One other thought. Are you using any third party plug-ins with your InDesign? If so make sure that they have been updated to their latest version. It may be possible that such a plug-in is causing your issues although I've never seen one that needs to be updated for incremental InDesign updates. It is still worth looking into.

What do you mean by:

Some files that were transferred to me, won't allow me to open them unless it's the 19.1 version of Indesign because other wise it says error. It can't be open with the latest version of Indesign (Indesign 19.5).
