How do I markup index entries with XML tags in a InDesign CS3 file?

Thanks in advance.

Dave,

Thank you. I apologize for not being clear. I don't have
the English version of InDesign so I am not familiar with
the actual terminology used to describe what I want to describe.

What I want to do is to be able to export InDesign to XML
with indexing information (maybe it's called index topics?)
so that I can translate the XML, import the XML back into
InDesign, generate the index, and the index will be translated
into the target language.

How would I go about doing this?

Thanks.

Are you talking about the entries in the index story or the markers in the text of the document?

The story can be marked up just like any other story. It also looks as though you can tag the markers, but I'm not sure how useful that will be if you are trying to round-trip. You'd probably have to add some attributes to each XML element if you're hoping to be able to export, re-import and then re-constitute the index markers.

Dear all,

Maybe someone can answer this question.

Is it possible to mark up index entries with XML tags
using scripting? If not, is it possible to write a
plug-in using the InDesign SDK to do this?

Thanks.
