How to Print two half page booklets at once automatically?

I'm trying to print two half-page (4.25 by 5.5) sized booklets, formatted in 2 up saddle stitch, on 8.5 x 11 pages, and want to print two at a time to save paper. For example, when I printed my draft, it turned out the way I wanted, but half of the printed page is wasted. Is it possible to format this automatically, or do I need to format the pages myself?

TL;DR: Can I print two half-page booklets at once automatically?

Thanks!

Absolutely.

Create the "parent" booklet at 4.25 x 5.5. I use one of Dave Saunders' booklet scripts to impose that file into a file in printers spreads, then place THAT file twice on a new letter-size page. Edit the parent file, update the links, done.

There might be professional RIP/imposition software that could do this, but not ID or any desktop app I can think of.

Just create a version with each page 2-up. Not too tricky.

I don't do embedded ID documents very often, but you might even be able to create a version that embeds (places) the same original file twice, so that any changes are always mirrored.
