How to Resolve Cursor Position Issues in InDesign 19.5 When Using the Type Tool

InDesign v. 19.5

Hi, 

When I have the Type Tool selected and click on a word, the cursor goes to the left of where I intended. Having Googled the issue, I see that the source of the problem may have to do with the direction of the text; however, neither in the character nor paragraph window does there seem to be an option to change the direction. I must be missing something. 

Could someone please help?
